Instead of making the same old boring snack and lunch,
MIX THINGS UP A BIT!
Let your child try new and exciting foods…
Some simple tips:
- Pack a variety of small items and finger foods for snack or lunch. Children enjoy these fun lunches and they love to make choices! If the only options available are healthy, your child will have a great lunch!
- Have your child help to pack his/her lunch before bed. Giving children choices and allowing them to feel in control of their lunch will encourage better eating!
- Try new things and mix them up every day. Children become really excited before opening their lunch kit each day, so let’s give them a reason to continue looking forward to lunch time!
- NO NUTS, NO PORK, LIMIT CHOCOLATE/SWEETS.

From the Kitchen of Jamie Oliver
- Try using brown or whole meal bread instead of white, and try not to stick to the same filling every day, if possible.
- Have a couple of cartons of pure unsweetened fruit juice or water – one for snack time and one for lunch time.
- Instead of the usual apple which can become quite boring, try a little bunch of grapes, half a melon, some sliced mango, half a papaya with a wedge of lime, or a kiwi, and include a spoon.
- Try and get your kids eating a little dried fruit – there is such a big choice now…
- While your kids are young, make a little salad an everyday thing, not a “healthy” thing that is only eaten occasionally.
